Surge Protection
What Equipment Do I Need For My Home?
It is recommended that homes use two stages of protection.
Stage 1 Installation of a heavy
duty suppressor, specifically designed to reduce or eliminate a "surge" or "spike"
on the electric line before it enters your service panel. This stage will increase
the life of your equipment and provide protection to major appliances. There are
two options of Stage 1 protection available through Guernsey-Muskingum Electric
Cooperative. Call us for details on cost and installation.

Stage 1 may not provide enough protection for your sensitive electronic equipment.
 |
Electronic equipment is becoming more complex and sensitive to surges.
|
 |
Surges can also come in on the phone or television cable lines. For these reasons,
it is highly recommended that homes also use Stage 2 protection.
|
Stage 2 This is an assortment of
plug-in strips and products that are placed throughout the home to protect televisions,
VCR’s, computer systems, etc. The types and quantities of these products will vary
from home to home. These are available at your local hardware store.
Is My Home Protected 100% Against Damage?
These devices (like any surge protection product) are not designed
to handle direct lightning strikes. They will not keep clocks from blinking after
an outage or save energy. So far, nothing man-made has been completely fool-proof
from the forces of nature. They will, however, provide protection against common
"surges" and "spikes" and the warranty includes damaged equipment if they fail.
